Chemo Kids 2012

June 4th, 2012

We had the pleasure again this year to participate in the "Chemo Kids Fish Off". This is hosted by the Coastal Bend Guides Association annually. This year, kids from Driscol Children's Hospital, were able to come out and fish for a morning with volunteer Guides from the CBGA. On our boat we were honored to have back Carlos Garcia. Carlos has fished with both Capt. Billie and Myself for the past several years now. This was to be his last year fishing the event as he is moving on and will be a college man next year. We wanted to make this a special trip and go out with a bang. The morning started really slow and we were not doing very well on the trout and reds. We made a big move and found a "BIG ONE". The previous year, Carlos had hooked up and broke off a big jack creavalle. This year he was hooked up again! This time Carlos won the battle. After a 35 minute fight and sore arms, he landed the big fish on 12 lb tackle. We were headed in with a 21.5 lb Jack - ALIVE to the weigh in. With this fish, Carlos won biggest fish and most weight overall. Congratulations, you earned it. The fish was released at the dock to fight again another day. We will miss fishing with Carlos, but hope he will come back and help us with the other kids next year. And Carlos, it is and always will be our honor to fish you anytime!
